From Idea to Reality: The Journey of Blank Multimedia's First Stand-Up Comedy Show with Jaspreet Singh

In this blog post, we at Blank Multimedia will take you on a journey through our first-ever event - a standup comedy show featuring the comedian, Jaspreet Singh. We'll share our experiences, the challenges we faced, and the valuable lessons we learned along the way.

Choosing Jaspreet Singh as the comedian wasn't just about his humour. We considered his popularity in our target cities (Lucknow, Bareilly, and Rampur) and our budget & post researching Jaspreet's down-to-earth personality online solidified our decision.

Finding the perfect locations for our six-city tour proved tricky. Exploring Kanpur, Haldwani, and Gorakhpur beyond the initial three cities rounded out our itinerary. Scheduling the tour dates involved juggling the Cricket World Cup, artist availability, and venue bookings. The final itinerary took shape, with city breaks sprinkled in.

Securing venues in cities dominated by wedding season functions was a challenge. Banquet halls became our reality, and in hindsight, prioritizing barter collaborations over swanky hotels like Radisson Blu (Gorakhpur) would have saved us. Leveraging the hotel off-season could have secured free venues in exchange for promoting their food and drinks.

Securing sponsors turned into an uphill battle. We contacted a massive list of 148 brands across two regions, along with local sponsors in each city. Unfortunately, the common response was "We're interested, but let's see how your first event goes." Discouraged but not defeated, we decided to change tactics and focus on securing national sponsorships.

Just a week before the event, a golden ticket arrived - UP Tourism sponsorship! Raghav and Gurpreet's relentless visits to the UP Tourism office, nearly 15 times a week, paid off. This sponsorship, along with Campai as the pouring partner and Radio Fever FM as the radio partner for all six cities, was a huge win.

Our marketing strategy was a multi-pronged attack. We used everything from eye-catching hoardings to strategic coupon code marketing on our website. Social media ads, standees, and tent cards at restaurants and venues spread the word. Influencer marketing, WhatsApp and email blasts, and radio marketing amplified our reach. Capitalizing on India's Cricket World Cup win against Pakistan, we launched a limited-time discount code, "India50," which saw ticket sales soar. Local collaborations, like the one with Round Table in Haldwani, added a personal touch.

The tour itself was a rollercoaster ride. Bareilly fell short of our ticket sales target, but the event was a success. Rampur's ticket sales were significantly impacted by a high number of weddings. Haldwani, however, became a sold-out show, the clear highlight of the initial leg. Jaspreet himself called it exceptional, and his insights on sound, light, and venue selection proved invaluable throughout the tour.

Gorakhpur's ticket sales reached around 300, and Lucknow, our home turf, was a resounding success. A packed house, top-notch sound and lights, and a stellar stage setup earned praise from Jaspreet himself. Kanpur's show, despite being a Sunday afternoon with a clashing World Cup match, went well, with ticket sales reaching around 330.

By the end, everyone was happy - the attendees, Jaspreet, our venue partners, sponsors, and the Blank Multimedia team. We even squeezed in a podcast recording with Jaspreet (though it took some convincing!), a celebratory team dinner, and a heartfelt walk along Lucknow's Marine Drive, where we discussed shows, life, and everything in between. It was an experience we'll never forget.
